Jean Puy was a French artist and member of the Fauves movement. In collaboration with artists such as Henri Matisse and André Derain, Puy developed a vibrant palette based on an emotional interpretation of the world, rather than on the reality that he and others observe.
Jean Puy's paintings were not as radical as some paintings by other Fauves. His works retained a subdued colour harmony and a sense of three-dimensional form, while still being vibrant. He was considered a pioneer in the use of different shades. "Color! Exciting, mesmerizing, interesting, and funny colours! It seems we never stop admiring them. "- he said once.
In this portrait of his wife, Jean Puy tried to capture her by using shades of light. The love that he had for his wife could be seen in every move in the painting, the warmth is clearly felt.

The feeling is omnipresent in all his paintings. The same way, Artist used warm colours in the painting "La Terrasse", painted in 1920.

Jean Puy wanted to immortalize an ordinary day, without worries or sadness. Looking at her, there is a desire to go somewhere to relax with the family. For example, go to the sea, which is depicted in the background of the picture.
